Recently, Durex USA conducted a study into global satisfaction when it comes to sex. The survey aimed to discover insights into the way that consumers think when it comes to sexual satisfaction.

The results were a little unexpected. Instead of finding that people were satisfied sexually, as a lot of people think, they found that people around the world could stand to be more sexually satisfied.

How The Study Was Conducted

The study used a variety of methods to gather information. The primary method to gather information was a Sexual Wellbeing survey. This survey was an easy way to gather information from a large amount of people in a variety of locations. The team also conducted interviews with 26,000 people from around the world, and all participants were age 16 or older.

The first part of the study addressed sexual satisfaction from a physical standpoint. The study used the following factors: free from stress and good mental and physical health, free from stress to achieve orgasm, free from sexual dysfunction, and frequency of sex and foreplay. The first factor is that to have sex we must be in generally good physical and mental health and free from stress. In order to orgasm we must also be free from stress. From the study, it was found that less than half of the participants orgasmed regularly during sex. Also, twice as many men orgasmed as compared to women.

Any kind of sexual dysfunction can limit our desire for sex or our ability to have it. The amount of sex and foreplay also determines someone’s satisfaction with sex.

In the second part of the study, they address the emotional issues that relate to sex. The factors they looked into were: feeling close to your partner, having an exciting sex life, free from sexual dysfunction, and a good first sexual experience. Those who are closer to their loved ones are more likely to feel satisfied with the sex that they have. The partners know that they are more likely to have sex again and there is a level of romance involved.

Those who explore during their sexual encounters are more likely to feel satisfied as they can find new ways to have sex. Those who have a sexual dysfunction are less likely to be satisfied from sex due to feelings of inadequacy. Those who have a negative first sexual experience are less likely to have sexual satisfaction later on in life as they often remember their first sexual encounter.

Results

The study has found that people value mutual respect of sexual encounters. 82% of people who feel sexually satisfied say that they feel respected by the partner during their sexual encounters.
Over 35% of those queried are looking for more love and romance in their sexual encounters. Better communication, intimacy, and more quality time with partners are all other things that respondents say they would like more of. The number of people who want to feel less stressed out and tired is about 37%.

The United States is often thought to be a mega power in the sexual world. It turns out that America is not even in the top portion of most sexually satisfied countries. Many other countries rank above them. Part of what causes this is the puritanical society that America has held for many years. The study finds that countries with more liberal views have more lax attitudes toward sex. Those countries also tend to have lower STD, teen pregnancy, abortion, and other sexual issue rates.

One of the most sexually satisfied countries in the world is Switzerland. Over 20% of Swiss nationals rate their sexual performance as excellent, which is probably due to multiple reasons. Switzerland has a very liberal stance on many sexual issues. Switzerland has legalized prostitution and has required licensing for brothels. They are also very controversial when it comes to their sexual education programs due to the fact that they begin as early as kindergarten. The teen birth rate in the United States is 10 times higher than Switzerland.

Spain, Italy, Brazil, Greece, the Netherlands, Mexico, India, Australia, Nigeria, Germany, and China are all above America in ratings of sexual satisfaction. Not all of these countries are known to be the most liberal, but some of them have lower rates of sexual dysfunction, STDs, and better laws that help stimulate the society to be more comfortable with sex.

Overall the study has found that people around the world need to devote more time and energy to both their sex lives and their partners. The world has taken on a negative connotation of sex that inhibits us from living fully sexually satisfied lives. With modern technology, there are products that can help overcome sexual dysfunction in both men and women. The biggest thing is that people need to find what works right for them.
